The Southeast is redefining luxury, according to Alison Melton, and that’s what drew The Agency to one of its most iconic coastal markets. “As Savannah continues its ‘glow up,’ with new hotels, restaurants and an evolving arts scene, we knew it was the perfect moment to introduce The Agency’s brand to the Hostess City,” she said.
Following the success of The Agency Hilton Head and Beaufort, both in South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, marks the next step in the brokerage company’s Southeastern growth, with other coastal markets to come. “It’s exciting to watch a brand transform the luxury landscape of the South in real time,” Melton said.
“Savannah is having a moment — and we’re capturing it through cinematic storytelling, global reach and authentic Southern hospitality. Our listings don’t just sell homes; they sell the lifestyle of one of America’s most magnetic cities.”

How did you get your start in real estate?
After years in New York City’s fast-paced finance world, my husband and I took a break at our vacation home in South Carolina to slow down and enjoy time with our young daughter. I’d always known my next chapter would be real estate — it was the perfect blend of finance, architecture and human connection.
We’d been investing in properties across the U.S. and abroad, and I loved watching how different markets evolved. That winter in New York was brutally cold, so we extended our stay down south — and something shifted. I went from going 100 miles an hour to spending my days riding horses, walking Hilton Head’s beaches and watching Disney shows with my daughter. It was blissful … until I got bored.
My plan was to get licensed in New York and launch a career in The Hamptons, but the Lowcountry had other ideas. I earned my South Carolina license that spring, joined a brokerage with excellent training, and quickly fell in love with both the business and the community. Each week brought “just one more” open house, client or opportunity — until finally, I realized I wasn’t going back.
When a friend asked if we’d officially moved, I laughed and said, “No — we just decided never to leave.”
My parents and extended family soon followed, and Bluffton became home. Today, I can be on the beach on Hilton Head, having a cocktail in Savannah, or shopping on Bay Street in Beaufort — all within 25 minutes of my doorstep. That lifestyle, that sense of balance and beauty, is what fuels my passion: helping others discover the magic of living here.
What do you wish more people knew about working in real estate?
Real estate isn’t part-time — it’s a full-time career that demands dedication and consistency. Clients trust us with their largest financial and emotional investment, and they deserve our full attention and expertise.
It can also feel isolating without the right culture. At The Agency Savannah, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We share ideas, market insights and best practices. We stay ahead of industry trends and, most importantly, follow our favorite rule: Rule No. 2 — Have fun. When you love what you do and who you do it with, success follows naturally.
5 things readers should know about me and my brokerage
- Discipline meets creativity. As a lifelong equestrian, I’ve learned that success — in riding or real estate — comes from preparation, balance and trust in your team.
- We’re elevating luxury in the Southeast. After building The Agency Hilton Head into one of South Carolina’s top brokerages, expanding into Savannah felt natural. It’s a city of art, architecture and authenticity, ready for modern storytelling.
- Our culture is our competitive edge. Collaboration drives both morale and performance. No one wins alone — and that’s how we like it.
- Luxury with purpose. True luxury means impact. Through The Agency’s partnership with Giveback Homes and local charities, we give back to the communities we serve.
- We live by Rule No. 2: Have fun. Whether celebrating a record sale, volunteering or hosting our annual pickleball fundraiser, we keep joy at the heart of everything we do.
What’s your top tip for freshly licensed brokers?
Learn everything. Be curious. Show up. Go to every open house, tour and community event. The more you immerse yourself, the faster you’ll build credibility.
Study your contract like your career depends on it — because it does. Find a mentor, shadow them and invest in yourself. Buy the ads. Send the reports. Polish your online presence. Focus on your local market and own it. Expertise beats aspiration every time.
What makes a good leader?
Great leadership balances strength, empathy and vision. It means making tough calls, understanding people and anticipating change.
I was fortunate to study at the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies, where we explored transformational leadership: the belief that true leaders inspire others to grow and exceed their own expectations. That philosophy has shaped my career.
At The Agency Savannah, I lead by example: setting high standards, fostering curiosity and empowering others to lead, too. Leadership isn’t about being in charge; it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels capable of leading.
